Margaret came to us with six payday loans, was unable to pay her bills, and was at a loss of what to do. We created a budget where she committed to reduce her spending and created a payment plan for her loans. She applied for and received Loans Plus, which helped her eliminate some of her payday loan debt. We ran her credit report, and her credit score was 545. We also applied for SNAP and the Medicare Savings Program, which added $199.90 to her
monthly income.

Margaret had bought her car at a “buy here pay here” car lot at a high interest rate. With our advice, she was able to refinance her car at a lower interest rate through her credit union. She also opened a credit card account and pays the balance off monthly. Over time she has paid off her payday loans, and her credit score has already increased to 654.
